Welcome to November! I am so loving the cooler weather. The strength and Kettlebell classes will continue this month, as well of course personal training. I have started another facebook page after the last one was deleted. If you have not already followed it please do so I really appreciate the support. This month I want to talk about the importance of getting out for some walking. I know it’s cooler out but bundle up and get out there! It is so fantastic for your body and spirit. You know that saying, “Every step counts”? It’s actually spot on. In a recent study published in Sports Medicine, researchers found that, for more than 28,0000 adults of all ages, every 1,000 daily step increase was associated with a 12 percent lower risk of death from all causes. These findings held true even after accounting for BMI, alcohol consumption, smoking status, pre-existing health conditions, and step intensity. According to the scientists, the benefits began at 2,500 steps and continued up to 17,000 steps. The take-home message: While we’re often told to shoot for 10,000 daily steps, just consistently moving more than you are now can make a meaningful difference over the long run. And after all: If you’re currently taking 3,000 steps, achieving the 10,000 steps “standard” might sound so unrealistic you don’t even bother to try. But could you add 1,000 to start? As this research shows, it’s enough to provide a benefit, and you can build from there. Besides, that’s how lasting change happens: a little at a time. TIP OF THE MONTH: DO A MOBILITY MOVE DAILY If you have participated in classes or personal training with me then for sure you know at least one mobility move. Mobility is the “ability of a joint to move actively through a range of motion” so basically moving your body freely with strength and stability. Mobility is one of those things that needs to be done frequently to see improvement. It doesn’t have to be a long complicated mobility session, just pick the move that you find you struggle with the most or the one that makes you feel the best. If you are unsure what to do ask me the next time you are in., Keep up on those mobility moves and for sure you will notice a difference in how your body feels.
